Childhood obesity: The good, the bad and the ugly face of these worldwide problem

I want to write about Childhood obesity, it's health importance and what things are being done. Based in information published in july 2010 at the Journal of Pediatrics, I hope to give you some idea of the good, the bad and the ugly faces of this worldwide problem. As a first part, receive: The good.

If I were to give you any news, I would tell you: I have some good and some bad news. Would you like to have the good ones first?

The good and the bad

Well, in an article about Opportunities to Improve the Health of America's Youngest Children, I found some interesting information that think could well apply to other countries:

First, the why's of the article: -"The earliest years establish health trajectories that extent into adulthood", and "The pediatric community must play a pivotal role", in educating and helping with this concern.

To which I should add that parents, schools, and others should also play a part in helping against childhood obesity.

The Child Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (CHIPRA), enacted in early 2009 are pushing forward to increase children's health coverage. Mexico is not less concerned, that's why the government has been giving messages of including more funds for children healthcare, and so are other countries.

Experts think that for providing the right care for young children (from 0-5 years), there are several elements to be addressed:

+ The child must receive care at recommended intervals.

+ The child must be checked as a "whole", to ensure that all factors that affect their healthy development are being addressed: family, environment, social, economical, physical, etc.

+ Care must be family centered and family oriented, as the family is the first cell of education and growth for the kids.

So, that's a good thing, what needs to be made is being identified and some measures and actions are on the way but...

Unfortunately I have to tell you some about the bad in the next article. Dont' lose it!
